History
Marina di Lizzano is the seaside district of Lizzano, one of the southernmost towns of the Tarantine Ionian coast and a heartland of Primitivo production. The shoreline, just 5 km from the town, is marked by dunes rich in Mediterranean scrub and a landscape where the vineyards meet the sea.
Its white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters with Caribbean glints — especially limpid on tramontana days — make it one of the best-loved spots on the Ionian Salento shoreline.
What to see
The shore is easily reached from the roadside car parks. The stretch is very wide, letting you choose between free beaches and equipped lidos. Continuing along the coast you meet evocative spots such as Torre Ovo, Acquadolce and Piri Piri.
The Acquadolce beach, in particular, is known for the curious trait of its sand, which stays cool to the touch even in the hottest hours, and for the spectacular sunsets that every year draw photographers and summer music events.
