Campomarino di Maruggio: the Caribbean of Manduria

Ionian coast, Maruggio's marina, 40 km from Taranto

Campomarino di Maruggio: the Blue Flag beach of Caribbean colours, with protected dunes, turquoise sea and the Torre delle Moline. How to get there from Taranto.

History

Campomarino di Maruggio is one of the most spectacular beaches of the Ionian Upper Salento, often nicknamed the "Caribbean of Manduria" for the turquoise colour of its sea and its soft, pale sand.

Awarded the Blue Flag, it is famous for its imposing dunes, part of the Campomarino Dunes Park, a protected area of great natural value. The beach lies near the historic Torre delle Moline, which adds charm to the landscape.

What to see

The shoreline features pale sand and an incredibly turquoise sea, shifting from emerald green to azure. The seabed is sandy and shallow, with the odd rock surfacing here and there. The water's transparency makes the area perfect for snorkelling.

Crossing the wooden walkways over the dunes to reach the shore is an evocative experience. The beach alternates free stretches and equipped lidos with bars and restaurants facing the sea. In the summer months it's very popular, but its wide spaces let everyone find their own corner.
