Marina di Leporano: bays, coves and Saturo

Ionian coast, 15 km from Taranto

Marina di Leporano: Blue Flag beaches with coves and natural pools, golden sand and the Saturo archaeological area. How to get there from Taranto.

History

Marina di Leporano is one of the coastal spots closest to Taranto, a succession of enchanting coves and bays awarded the Blue Flag. Golden sand alternates with rocky shelves forming small natural pools, with some of the coast's most transparent waters, shifting from turquoise to emerald.

The area has ancient roots: here stood the settlement of Saturo, one of the first Greek landings in the Tarantine territory, today an Archaeological Park facing the sea.

What to see

Among the finest bays stands out Porto Pirrone, a corner of paradise where sand alternates with rocks. The cove-shaped shoreline makes Marina di Leporano perfect for snorkelling and for those seeking sheltered, scenic inlets.

The closeness of the Saturo Archaeological Park, with the remains of the ancient landing place and the Roman aqueduct, lets you combine sea and culture in a single day.
